Name: “Psalm” by P. Celan: Analysis and Translations into Russian

Abstract: My paper focuses on the analysis of Paul Celan’s poetry translation into Russian. The first part gives a brief chronology of translations (1960s – 2010s), which will consider early texts often made in close proximity to some of Osip Mandelstam’s poems. In the second part, my article analyses the poem “Psalm” focusing on the semantic potential of the number and letter combinations. Furthermore, it investigates two of its Russian translation-variants and identifies the main strategies used by translators to recreate the ambivalence of Celan’s texts.
