Name: Ethical Poesis and Care of Oneself. From Esthetics of Coexistence to Genealogy of Ethics

Abstract: The article deals with Foucault’s ethical content of care of oneself. The project of genealogy of ethics of М. Foucault is discussed. The subject of the article is ethical problems and ethical prospects of Foucault’s conception. We are considering not only his famous book of the same name, which is included in the trilogy on the history of sexuality, but also a number of other texts of the 1980s related to the study of practices and techniques of existence. First of all, this is the lecture course “Hermeneutics”, taught by Foucault at the College de France in the 1981–1982 school year, as well as other lecture courses from this period and a project on the genealogy of ethics. In this article, we will be interested in how Foucault’s concept of “taking care of yourself” is included in the problem field of his “genealogy of ethics”, and how it relates to the topic of ethical poetics – ethical poesis as a constitution / formation of an ethical subject.
