Abstract: The image of the enemy in the official Roman system of values had many modalities. The internal enemy is always more harmful than the external ope. The main internal enemies were strangers, foreigners who decomposed foundations of values of Roman society and the state. Particularly pernicious one consider eastern Hellenistic values, brought about from the periphery to the very heart of the empire and which are corrosive to the soul of nobility and naive youth. The main task of the first princeps and his inner circle was an opposition to pernicious influence of Hellenism and revival of Roman virtues.
