Abstract: Yuri Lotman’s Lectures on Structural Poetics, published as the first volume of a Tartu-based periodical, Sign Systems Studies (1964), has a subtitle: «Theory of Verse». However, no responses to this book from verse theorists are known, with the exception of Mikhail Gasparov’s preface to its posthumous republication. This article gives an analysis of two prominent scholars of verse, Kiril Taranovsky’s and Vladislav Kholshevnikov’s unpublished marginalia in their own copies of Lotman’s Lectures.
