Abstract: In the last years, Russian literature has shown an increasing development of not only short, but also of large and extensive verse texts that either continue the tradition of epic poetry or try to transform it, inventing new forms. It is characteristic of the larger epic verse forms that they hybridize lyrical features with epic or even dramatic principles. Although these features could coexist in the tradition of the epic poetry, here they have been used in a more functionally differentiated and relatively autonomous way. In the segment of contemporary professional literature, however, sophisticated and experimental forms of genre hybrids dominate the epic poetry. The hybridization of genre features leads to a complication of subject structures and a playful use of them. As an example of genre hybridization, which represents an innovative way of constructing subject structures, this paper analyses the book by Maria Rybakova “Gnedich”, published in 2011.
