Abstract: The magazine “Soviet Photo” was the most popular periodical devoted to photography and photographic technology. The magazine was intended, first of all, for Soviet amateur photographers, but at the same time it was of interest to professional photographers, journalists, photo reporters, as it published their works and various technical information. A significant component of the magazine throughout the entire period of its existence were popular science publications. For the popularization of scientific and technical knowledge in the field of physics and chemistry of the formation of photographic images, in the field of photographic technologies, the magazine was almost an ideal platform, being turned to the widest masses of photographic enthusiasts. Of particular interest is the final stage of the magazine’s life, a kind of “perestroika” and “post-perestroika”, the period of maximum emancipation of practically the former Soviet magazine. At this time, the leading scientific-popular topic of his becomes humanitarian – the general theory of images, aesthetics and the theory of photography.
