ArticleName: On the Transformation of a Play into a Theatrical Performance: From Transmutation and Transcodification to Recurrent Semiosis and Resonance Authors: Elena G. Loginova Ryazan State University named for S. Yesenin, Ryazan, Russian Federation
Abstract: The article summarizes different approaches to intermitotic translation (also transmutation and transcodification) exemplified by the translation of a play into a theatrical performance. The main task is to define an analytical tool which can help to describe equivalence in the process of intermitotic translation when the results of diverse polymodal transformations show the amplification of meaning projections and a higher degree of expressiveness as compared with the original content. The article continues the discussion on the understanding and interpretation of cultural texts (theatrical texts in particular) initiated by Yu. M. Lotman. The author tries to draw some parallels between Lotman’s semiotic theory of culture and the modern interpretative theory of translation. Such parallels give impetus to a new cognitive-semiotic dimension of intersemiotic translation process characterized by semiotic resonance and recurrent collaborative semiosis.
