ArticleName: Bilingualism of Nika Skandiaka’s original poetry and poetic translations Authors: M. A. Tarasova Institute of Linguistics, Russian Academy of Sciences
Abstract: The article focuses on of Nika Skandiaka’s bilingualism as detected in her original poetry. One of the traits of Skandiaka’s individual style is fusion of strategies: those of a bilingual poet and of a poetic translator. There are some differences between these strategies, for a translator has to do not only with two languages, but also with crucial differences between them, which become especially noticeable in the course of translation. In some her original poems Skandiaka detects some differences of that kind, referring to different levels of the language, when she supplies an English phrase (or separate words) with several versions of «translation». Potential resources of Russian are activated as typical for language of poetic translations. Poetic translator is, for one thing, a poet, and for the other thing – a linguist, an investigator of both languages (that of the origin and that of the translation). This trend is fully realized in Skandiaka’s poetic translations. Keywords: bilingualism, translation, poetic language, potentiality, linguistic interference Bibliography: Parshhikov A.
