Article

Name: On the semantics, syntactics and pragmatics of «possible worlds» in a tri-dimentional space of idiolect: hypnic hallucinations and fantasy

Authors: E. A. Deyneka, N. S. Bulygina

Issue 2, 2015Pages 135-160
UDK: 81'23DOI:

Abstract: The authors of the article, a neurophysiologist and his former patient – a writer with diagnosis of narcolepsy – have attempted to analyze together, in the light of current trends in language sciences, a number of psycholinguistic phenomena encountered in the coauthor-«patient’s» fiction writings. In particular, the article discusses the issues related to the phenomena of onomastic synesthesia, peculiarities of individual style of a fantasy writer and the role of language unconsciousness in structuring a special type of artistic discourses (mythopoetically oriented fiction literature). The identified patterns of phonosemantic symbolism partly give continuation to the ideas expressed by the famous French linguist G. Guillaume, and thus reopen the question long ago closed, it would seem, by F. de Saussure about the initial ontological arbitrariness of the linguistic sign in a phylogenetic retrospective. The scientific interdisciplinary study of the described mechanisms should allow to extend the concepts of modern linguistics and to chart new ground in studies of the nature of human language.

Keywords: semiolinguistics, psycholinguistics, idiolect, hypnic hallucinations, fantasy, literary onomastics, synaesthetic symbolism
