ArticleName: A meaning of tongue in modern Russian Literature Authors: V. V. Maroshi Novosibirsk State Pedagogic University
Abstract: In modern Russian prose a tongue begins to play a special role for appearance, behaviour and status of the character. This detail of a portrait becomes grotesque, language becomes the most important trait of character appearance or an autonomous entity. The anatomical strangeness of the tongue corresponds to various forms of defects in the speech of a character or excessive rhetoric in combination with defectiveness. From the point of view of the plot it is «self-abnegation» of a tongue in situations of suicide of the hero, tongueʼs cutting, replacement language to a particular alien, but more effectively acting special «vampire» tongue. A grotesque anatomical tongue is associated with a set of typical of traditional Russian and modern global culture character roles: the fool, «little man», Russian intellectual, a fearsome vampire. The boundaries of such intertextual character in the character system are determined by the anomaly – a freak outcast to Superman, but the opportunity to return to anthropomorphic norm is preserved. Thus, image of a tongue is in contraversive space of meanings between the abnormal and normal.
