Abstract:

The paper carries out a quantitative cognitive-discursive study of the implicit evaluativeness of the event verb sluchit’sya (to happen) in representative contexts of its use according to the poetic corpus in the Russian National Corpus. The hypothesis is verified that in the discourse of the literary type, the frequency indicators of positive or negative implicit evaluation for the verb sluchit’sya (to happen) may show deviations from the standard indicators in the main corpus, i.e. in conditionally non-poetic speech, which we will take as a corpus norm, as a starting point. It is concluded that in Russian poetic speech there is a significant “drift” of the semantic aura of the verb in the direction of the development of negative evaluative potential, and this is even more typical for the language of poetry than for non-poetic discourses.

Keywords: verb sluchit’sya (to happen), linguistic axiology, quantitative analysis of corpus data, implicit evaluativeness, language of Russian poetry
